Product updates, new features, and improvements. Latest first.
Template lines that are hard-coded or need a manual check now carry an amber flag on Materials, so they don’t read like a measured quantity. Lines you’ve removed from a job can be seen and restored without changing template, and product dropdowns run A to Z with the default and on-drawing products pinned at the top. You can also export the items found on the plans to CSV, Excel or PDF, marked priced or not priced.
The Jobs list is now search-first. Jobs are listed by last edit, 25 to a page, and each row shows the plan file name and the step the job is at, so you can pick up where you left off in one click. New jobs take their name from the site address on the plans, and invitation and sign-up emails now carry TakeoffQS branding, so they’re easy to spot in an inbox.
Mark a quote as lost with a reason, keep chase notes against it, restore an earlier revision, and export your quote log as a CSV. Switch between a quote’s options from the sheet or the list, and share a site copy with the crew by link, with quantities and no prices.
Once a job is won, variations sit under the original quote with the same job number, and payment claims include approved variations, with each month kept separate. Freight can be its own line, fixed from a supplier quote or worked out from your default rule.
You no longer have to approve each section to move through Measure. Next takes you forward, skipping a step is just Next, and only an unconfirmed scale or a required choice holds you up. One navigator shows where you are and jumps anywhere in the job, and the scale shows its ratio and confidence at a glance.
Wall heights are easier to correct too. Set the job wall height and everything prices off it, fix a whole group of detected heights in one edit, and give intertenancy walls their own height on multi-unit jobs.
Send us the plans and we’ll do the takeoff for you. The TakeoffQS Estimates service measures residential plan sets in the same TakeoffQS software, and an experienced QS or estimator checks every schedule before it goes back. You get a measured material schedule on your own product codes, as a CSV that imports straight into your system, with five working days as our target. If we get something wrong, we fix it free. It’s $225 + GST per single-storey plan set, or $650 + GST for multi-unit up to three blocks, and your first single-storey job is free when you sign up. See how it works.
Construction details are now sorted into twelve types, including cladding, wet area, foundation, roof and bracing, instead of one catch-all, and manufacturer installation guides bound into a plan set go to spec notes rather than passing as the job’s own details. External walls trace closer to the drawn line and thin rooms no longer collapse. Cladding box corners are billed per corner rather than by summed metres, jamb and horizontal flashings are separate accessories, and smoke alarms are sized from the number of bedrooms.
Export the whole takeoff as a marked-up plans pack: an A3 PDF with a page for every plan sheet and measurement step, each showing only that step’s markups, so framing, bracing, cladding and roof each get a clean page instead of one crowded overlay. Every page has a plain-English note of what’s marked, with its totals, and a colour key. Cladding pages name and colour each system with its area, and bracing splits into plasterboard, ply and hold-down pages. The plans print sharp, and the cover takes the address and DP number from the title block. Find it under Export on the Pricing screen, as part of the job pack.
The job pack can also include a basis of quantities, the document that backs a quote. It sets out the job and the plans it was taken from, what’s included, what’s not included or supplied by others, and the assumptions behind the numbers. You check it in four steps (sections, supply by others, assumptions and notes, confirm) before it’s generated, and you can mark lines as supply by others straight from Materials. Every export is saved to the job’s files as a new version, so an earlier pack is never overwritten.
A new Cladding accessories step on the elevations shows every detected corner, cavity closer, scriber, sill and jamb, and prices what you see. Tap a marker to delete or reclassify it, draw anything that’s missing, or box-select a group and delete it in one go. The accessories offered follow the cladding system on each wall, so brick veneer and other non-cavity walls don’t pick up trims they don’t need. The rail totals accessories by system and type, with counts and a north, east, south and west split, so a missing corner stands out.
Select touching pieces and press M to merge them into one shape. The new deduction tool cuts a region out of any area without redrawing it, and Box select (next to Select and Pan) picks up everything inside a rectangle so you can delete it in one go. Where shapes overlap, a click lets you choose the one you meant. Switch on the magnet to snap points to the lines printed on vector PDFs. The job address and plan file name now sit at the top of Measure, Materials and Pricing.
Detections that land outside the building are now rejected automatically: foundation pods and beams off the slab, subfloor piles and bearers outside the outline, strip braces off the roof, internal walls outside the envelope, and elevation windows and doors outside the cladding. Fix a mis-traced perimeter and they come back. A hinged door can no longer come through as both internal and external, auto-scale ignores numbers inside notes, and the wall height stated on a cross-section now beats a measured span. Garage door fascia is worked out from the door size instead of a fixed allowance.
Multi-Unit now sits beside Residential and Commercial as a building type for every organisation. Townhouse floor plans are read with their shared intertenancy walls, and every measurement is assigned to the block it sits in, so two blocks drawn on one sheet measure and price separately. Cladding groups belong to a block and the Pricing screen has a tab per block. Midfloor, subfloor and intertenancy walls now have to be reviewed before a multi-unit job moves to pricing, so a floor system can’t be missed.
Quote PDFs have a new branded layout with your logo, accent colour and typeface. Company details live on your business profile, and the look of the quote is set in one template editor, split into Branding, Typeface, Layout and Wording, with a live preview beside it. Turn on an executive summary page to show section totals up front with the full breakdown behind it.
Multi-building quotes download one workbook per building by default. Once the work is under way, open Invoicing from the quote sheet to record material and labour complete to date and export a payment claim workbook.
Price book imports now end on a review screen that opens on the rows needing attention. Fix names, rates and categories, exclude or add lines, and assign any column the importer didn’t recognise, all before anything is committed. POA and TBC products come in as unpriced instead of disappearing, and the subcategory suggested for each product is right far more often.
Labour regions are yours to name rather than a fixed North and South, and Australian organisations get 10% GST and AUD from signup.
Price an alternate as an option and it keeps the base quote’s number, prints as a one-liner under the letter total and doesn’t use another takeoff. Re-generating a quote asks for a revision reason, and the quotes list shows one row per quote number with revision and option badges, plus Draft, Sent, Won and Lost filters.
On the quote sheet you can now attach supplier quotes and specs to the job, add labour-only lines from price book search, and price flashings with a calculator. If the letter totals don’t match the workings, the quote won’t go out.
Written documentation for every part of the product is now live at help.takeoffqs.com. It’s open to everyone, no login needed, so you can send a link to anyone on your team.
It’s maintained alongside the product rather than written once and left, so a page tells you how the software behaves this week. The in-app assistant that answers out of these pages is still being built.

Climate zone resolves from the territorial authority, the thermal envelope comes off the plan you’ve already measured, and R-values are backed by a catalogue with a confirmation step before anything counts. Slab geometry is worked out from Appendix E, including mixed perimeters. You finish with a report that shows its working, so anyone checking it can follow how each figure was reached. H1 assessments are available on request.
A governed template library, a bill of quantities that prices itself off the plan, and a quote sheet you can edit, with material, labour, markup and sell in the footer as you go. Send packages out to suppliers and compare what comes back in quote rooms, then share the finished quote to a client portal where your customer accepts or declines.
Nine new page types: drainage, mechanical, fire, trusses, landscaping, interior elevations, structural, site plans and window and door layouts. Duplexes and multi-unit sites now model per dwelling, so cost per unit is a real number rather than a division afterwards. And the pricebook matches a plan’s materials to an actual supplier product, not a rough category.
Around sixty-five performance changes across the busiest paths. Measure stops re-asking the server for work it already has, Materials deletes and saves land straight away instead of waiting on a refresh, and live updates hold up on patchy site connections.

Send a quote as a secure link and your client opens it in their browser. No login, no PDF attachment chain. They see the quote and your terms and conditions, then accept or decline with a typed signature, and the decision lands straight back in TakeoffQS with any decline reason attached. Links expire on a schedule, you can resend or revoke at any time, and there’s only ever one live link per quote. Switch it on for your whole team from Account settings.
Not every job starts with a set of plans. Create a quote from scratch, search your pricebook and add priced items straight onto the sheet, and send it. No upload, no measuring. Plan-less quotes are proper jobs with their own status, so the small stuff sits alongside your takeoffs instead of living in a spreadsheet.
Sending a package out is only half the job. Quote Rooms handles what comes back. Invite several suppliers to price the same scope, track who’s responded, compare their numbers side by side against your pricebook, and award the work when you’re ready. Two-way comments keep the conversation on the job instead of buried in email, and after the award you can see how each supplier’s pricing actually stacked up.
Export the annotated plan as a PDF straight from the Measure screen: every wall, area and markup exactly as you measured it. Handy for site copies, supplier packs, and showing the builder exactly what was allowed for.
Scanned and photographed plan sets now read at full resolution, recovering roughly three times the text the old pipeline silently dropped. Partial reads get retried instead of trusted, and if a plan set looks commercial rather than residential, TakeoffQS flags it up front, before you’ve spent time pricing it.
A deep reliability pass across the app. Dozens of the slowest reads on the Measure and Materials screens were reworked, double-clicks and repeated submissions can no longer create duplicates, and two people editing the same job can’t overwrite each other. Nothing new to learn. Everything just holds up better.
Build a package from the Materials page and send it to a supplier without leaving TakeoffQS. Suppliers get a secure link and notification, you get a sent-packages list showing exactly what went where. No more exporting, attaching, and hoping the right version landed.
Wall heights now resolve per wall type, wall widths snap to the NZ 90/140/190 catalog with a dropdown and a custom override for the odd ones, and per-width wall lengths are available as template variables. Framing inputs prefill from plan text, midfloor joists get total lineal metres, and a new Framing Logic tab lets you review it all on the same canvas you measured on.
Mass select, group drag, and bulk delete with undo for plan elements. Fixing a busy page no longer means one click at a time. External walls moved to their own retrained detection model for better accuracy, and identical pages across plan revisions now skip re-extraction entirely.
A new export template builder lets you control exactly which columns and sections land in your XLSX. Plus an approved-measurements export button right on the Measure rail, and a clean raw-measurements CSV/Excel option when you just want the numbers.
A dedicated Materials step now sits between Measure and Pricing. Plan viewer on the left, products, formulas and quantities on the right. A visual formula editor shows exactly how every quantity is built, each line carries an honest quantity state so you know what’s measured vs assumed, and materials extracted from the plans are automatically grouped and matched against your pricebook, with a guided wizard for adding anything new to the BoQ or pricebook.
TakeoffQS now detects not-to-scale sheets, per-sheet scale drift, and plot-reduced prints, and verifies scale with a three-source dimension cross-check before you measure. One-click auto-calibration with draggable endpoints, a full calibration audit trail per sheet, and calibration that carries across plan revisions. Learned corrections mean the same drawing source gets it right first time, next time.
Stress-test a quote before it goes out. Run scenarios across markup and contingency, see sensitivity by BoQ section, and get a commercial risk view that pulls in unresolved clarifications and supplier quote status. A quote audit snapshot captures the evidence behind every approval.
Metric cards now flag statistical outliers and out-of-bounds values with warning badges, sanity bounds are tuned per building type, and a triaged plan-quality panel scores every plan set up front with inline fixes for the issues it finds. Plus a Wet/Dry toggle on internal walls that flows straight into wet-area metrics and pricing.
Build your own quote template and TakeoffQS renders a professional PDF that matches your brand (server-side, consistent every time). Quote lifecycle got smarter too: full history, one-click open PDF, and mark-as-sent tracking.
Hover over the plan and Smart Select picks up vector shapes straight off the drawing: walls, zones, whole rooms. It detects individual rooms on floor plans (with manual label editing when you want it), and a dedicated elevation mode recovers windows, doors and cladding cleanly. Per-room painting metrics now flow into the BoQ, wall and ceiling areas included.
Approve, unapprove, override a value, or approve a whole section: the UI responds instantly instead of blocking on the server. Long BoQ and Vault lists are virtualized so big jobs scroll smoothly.
Drop several PDFs or a single zip and TakeoffQS uploads them in parallel and merges them into one job. Job creation now captures country and building type up front, and if you’ve done a similar job before, TakeoffQS spots it and suggests reusing that takeoff as your starting point.
Every org now starts with default Balance of House and Prenail templates seeded and ready. Move templates between accounts with CSV import/export, configure your own pricebook categories, and export your whole org pricebook to CSV in one click.
A badge on What’s New tells you when there’s something new to read, like this list. Plus account settings reorganised into tabs so the option you need is easier to find.
Roofing gets its own workflow matrix. Barge and spouting ship as standalone lineal-metre lines, downpipe lengths are measured off elevation drawings, and per-account accessories and fixings uplifts mean the extras are priced your way. Cladding steps are stripped out of the roofing path: roofers see roofing. The roofing workflow is available on request.
Concrete volume is now computed by component summation, automated rib detection is back with editable widths and depths, and internal beams are differentiated 300 vs 400mm. Rebar lines are managed by bar type, and plan sets with both architectural and structural foundation pages now prefer the structural one automatically. Foundation jobs are available on request.
Pop the PDF reference view into its own window and keep measuring in the main one. Split view is now a continuous multi-page viewer, custom drawing scales are supported, and canvas panning always keeps the page edge reachable.
Pin notes to specific plan pages and dictate them: TakeoffQS transcribes as you talk. Everything rolls up into a Clarifications Sheet so your questions for the builder land in one place, and the notes launcher lives right in the measure toolbar.
Approve or skip detections without touching the mouse and walk across pages as you go. Every Measure shortcut is rebindable per user, hovering any metric shows exactly how it was calculated, and clicking a wall segment drops a new vertex right where you need it. Sanity-bounds warnings flag implausible wall heights before they slip through.
Quotes now carry a proper commercial layer: add markup and contingency on top of the priced takeoff. And the hard pricing-readiness gate is now advisory: you decide when a job is ready to price.

GPU-backed inference sits closer to our models, regional infrastructure in Sydney keeps your data at rest in Australia, and improved redundancy means less downtime during busy periods.
Four new annotation types this month: external doors and external sliding doors on floor plans, soffits and strip bracing on roof plans. Plus a new approve-all button that bulk-approves catchments, internal walls and other annotations when the model gets them right first time. Big time savings on balance of house and prenail.
Choose which detection models to include in your takeoff. Toggle off models you don’t need (like Catchments or Soffits) and focus only on what matters for the job. Toggled-off models are hidden, not deleted, so you can always bring them back.
TakeoffQS now handles multi-unit residential projects. AI-assisted unit detection identifies individual units automatically, exports and quotes are unit-aware with per-unit line items, and cross-validation runs at the unit level so discrepancies are caught where they matter.
A new “Approve All Metrics” button lets you sign off on an entire page of detections in one click. No more approving each metric individually.
The pricing page has been rebuilt for speed and reliability. A new save status indicator shows you exactly when changes are being saved, and price books are now easier to manage and apply across jobs.
