Backstory
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Dresden, a town in the east of Germany, famously known for its beautiful old town by the river which was rebuilt after the war.
What did your parents do, and what did you take from them?
My sister and I were raised by our mum, and I’ve learned to work hard for what you really want and never give up.
What did you spend the most time on as a kid?
I loved spending weekends with my grandparents and sister at our bach, near a lake where I spent most of the time in the water.
What did you do before TakeoffQS?
I’ve trialled a few different jobs since coming to NZ to gain different experiences and perspectives, but my main love remains marketing.
How did you end up at TakeoffQS?
I love things that challenge the status quo and make things more efficient, so this is a perfect match!
What I care about
What’s broken in estimating that you want to fix?
It seems that there’s a lot of guesswork in this industry, simply using experience to estimate things. While it’s great to use that knowledge, data is key and needs to be captured and utilised to improve systems across the board.
What do you look for in the companies we work with?
I think we work best with people that want to do differently and aren’t afraid of change, but rather embrace it to stay ahead of the curve.
A mistake you see builders make repeatedly?
The ‘that’ll do / she’ll be right’ mindset.
What gets you fired up about this work?
How much TakeoffQS and BuildFoundry can help this industry build better and faster. I’m passionate about New Zealand’s future, and if we want to keep this place as incredible as it is, we need to raise the bar on how we work.
What values matter most in how we build TakeoffQS?
Speed, failing fast and getting better every single day is better than the status quo. We need new ideas and to trial different ways — not be too scared to make mistakes — in order to create something incredible for this industry.
The human bits
Favourite mantra in a work context?
Get s#@t done.
Secret skill?
My never-ending patience with Brad.
Dinner with anyone, alive or dead?
My late grandparents, so I can tell them all about how my life turned out so far.
What can you nerd out on for hours?
Harry Potter.
How do workmates describe you?
Hardworking, helpful, creative, strategic.
